In the country

Last weekend we took a drive to the country to visit a dear friend of mine.  We only get to visit once a year which makes it all the more special, and the drive is beautiful!  We spent a little time visiting nearby towns, trying out various bakery lunches (a must!), exploring antique shops (which I absolutely love), and indulging in lots of homemade cake and fudge (more salted caramel, please).  The signs of autumn were everywhere, much more so than in the city.  And as we drove past the long golden grasses and bushland, I couldn’t help but stop to take some photos.  M x

All I want for Christmas

I don’t want a lot for Christmas
There is just one thing I need
I don’t care about the presents
Underneath the Christmas tree

I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas
Is you.
~ Mariah Carey & Walter Afanasieff

I wish you all the most beautiful Christmas time.  I hope it’s spent with those you love the most in the world.
May your holiday be full of wishes granted, laughter, and happiness!

Bloom

This morning I took a moment to look at the blossoms.  They are brand new, and fresh, and amazing, and they make me smile.  A sign of spring approaching, and one of my favourite things about this time of year.  I can almost feel the sun pushing winter away, and I can’t wait to see what the new season will bring.  I have so much to look forward to, more so this year than any other.

It’s going to be wonderful.  And I wish the same for you.

Merry Christmas

I want to say thank you to everyone for helping make 2011 more amazing than I could have dreamed of.  When this story began, I didn’t imagine the momentum that would build and carry me to such a wonderful place.  I love taking photos and sharing them with you, and every day is a joy because of that.  After years spent wishing for such a feeling, I can only be immensely grateful and full of appreciation.  I hope you will follow me into 2012 – there is so much to look forward to!

I wish you and yours the most magical Christmas, full of joy, wonder, friends, family, love, and dreams come true.

Love ~ Mel, Andrew & Sophia xx

Days of summer

Roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer
You’ll wish that summer could always be here.

Let it snow

I have only just finished going through the photos from our recent little holiday.  We spent a beautiful sunny afternoon at the snow, Sophia’s very first time there!  Clear blue sky followed us all the way up the mountain, and slowly, slowly, patches of white along the side of the road, just before we arrived at the top.  We took the chair lift up, and Sophia was overflowing with wonder at the sight!  We threw snowballs and jumped and rolled and laughed, and it was perfect.  Times like these I wish could last and last.  Not a single worry or care in the world, just being, in that moment.  M x

Country road

During our visit to see my talented photographer friend Jen last week, we took a drive to some beautiful spots hoping to capture a little piece of nature, coming into bloom for spring.  The blossoms were just beginning, and the wattle glowed in the sun.  It was wonderful to wander the country roads, admiring the view and appreciating each other’s company.  Jen is also the owner of Elevation Mt Beauty, where we stayed, which has the most spectacular outlook to Mt Bogong.  I envy Jen such a postcard perfect scene, right outside her door every day.  It was a joy to be there and it felt just like home.  I hope we’ll be back soon.  M x

My little one

Little one,
I was so gloomy,
Felt that life sure would undo me
till, one night, you happened to me,
My little one.  M x

Everything old

While we were away earlier this week, we took the time to visit some country towns.  I love looking in antique stores full of treasures waiting to be discovered, wandering the old streets, eating home cooked pastries, and feeling like a part of history.  We admired the beautiful countryside along the way and enjoyed the kind of peace only the country can bring.  I wish we could visit a little more often.  M x

Around the block

We found a small opening in the clouds this morning.  Just enough time for a trip around the block.  And doesn’t everyone wear their tutu while riding their trike?  With her “apple hair”, Sophia set off, and her Dad and I followed.  Trying to reach the pedals now, she looks into every house, through every fence, and into every garden.  Endless fascination that I adore.  And in the same way too, I am endlessly fascinated with her.  How lovely something so simple can be, familiar surroundings becoming a thing of wonder.  And we arrived back home, and the rain came down!  M x
