Bronze

Last month I entered the Better Digital Camera Magazine’s ‘Your Best Digital Pics 2012′ online photography competition.  I heard about the competition just hours before the closing time for entries, and so quickly rushed in a handful of photos at random for a little fun, to see what would happen.  I was very pleasantly surprised to discover the results – 7 out of the 10 photos I entered received Bronze Awards!  This was the first photography competition I have been a part of, and it has inspired me to try again.  Next time, with much more preparation and hopefully even better results.  I love receiving feedback on my work, both from fellow photographers and clients, as it can be so encouraging and an excellent way to learn.  And I don’t ever want to stop learning.  M x

One year

My blog is celebrating it’s birthday!  One year, and 143 posts – I have adored every minute of it.  It has kept me sane when things were crazy and given me inspiration when I felt lost.  Like my own little box of treasures, full of memories and moments, and happiness and magic.  Just the beginning of so many dreams.  And of course, who would I be today without my best muse!  All she wanted was for me to be next to her.  And I wondered at her, in those minutes of everyday that are so much more.

I hope you have enjoyed my posts as much as I have loved sharing them with you.  And I hope you’ll stay for more!  M x

The last day of 2

Tomorrow you turn 3.  You have been excited about your birthday for weeks, and today was no exception.  We went shopping and you told everyone we met that it’s your birthday.  You’re having the pink party you have dreamed of, with a ‘Mimi’ cake (I love that you call Dora ‘Mimi’) and lots of friends who love you.  I can’t wait to watch you open presents, hear everyone sing Happy Birthday to you, with a big Hip Hip Hooray at the end!  This last year of 2 has shown me why I wanted to be a mother, and there were so many moments to love.

You learned to count, making it up at the start, saying 4, 6, 11, 14, 16.  Goodness knows why you chose those numbers.  Then you made it from 1 to 10 and beyond, and I couldn’t have been more proud if you had flown to the moon.

Your endless chatter every day never ceases to impress and surprise me.  We have lovely conversations over chai and gingerbread at our favourite cafe.  Whenever we pass it, you ask for “coffee man” and I can’t help but give in.

Ballet class is your favourite thing and I’m sure not a day has passed that you haven’t put on your shoes and danced for me, or Daddy, or Nanna.  You have an amazing sense of rhythm and love classical music.

I hear you sing along to the radio when we’re driving and it makes my heart happy!

You started preschool, and you run to me with arms out every time I pick you up.  You bring home the most adorable artworks and we hang them on the stairs so everyone can see.  You are so purposeful and planned in how you do things.

You are super friendly and often adopt other families at the playground, joining in their games as if you always belonged.  You charm everyone with your big eyes and sunny smiles!

We gave you a scooter as an early birthday present, and in just days you went from beginner to racer, going as fast as I can run after you!  Like a skater you throw your leg out behind you and glide along, so graceful and balanced.

You always hold my hand when we walk, and I love feeling you bouncing along beside me.

I say guess what.  You say love you.  I say I love you lots and lots.  You say no Mum, just one.  One love.

You tell me Mummy, I’m so happy.  And that’s all I could ever want for you.

So goodnight my darling, and when you wake, you’ll be 3.  And I’ll love you more than yesterday.  And even more the day after that.

My bestest girl in the whole world.  M x

Ice cream dream

I had the pleasure of photographing a gorgeous event last year, and I’m so excited to share these photos with you now.  The incredibly talented Leoni Jena of Just Call Me Martha created an amazing ice-cream themed birthday party held at Petit Atelier in Prahran, to celebrate her daughter, Annike, turning 7.  Leoni’s creativity and attention to detail is inspiring, and the dessert table was any little girl’s dream!  Celebrate Magazine has included an article on Annike’s party in their spring edition.  Check it out!

I hope you enjoy these delicious photos!  M x

To visit the Queen

But not in London.  The Queen Mary 2, docked at Port Melbourne’s Station Pier, seemed to draw most of Melbourne to see her.  We braved the crowds to take a look, and what an amazing sight she was!  Sophia was more than happy to make sandcastles and chase seagulls, while her Dad and I stood and marvelled at the sight of one of the most luxurious ocean liners ever built.  And dreamed of sailing away.  M x

The days before

In just 16 days, my beautiful baby (are they ever anything but your baby?) turns 3.  I’m almost in denial.  That 3 entire years have passed since I held her first, saw her first, loved her more than I thought was possible in the world.  I am enjoying my time with her so incredibly much every day, the silly, funny things she says, how independent she wants to be, and the little girl she has become that makes me super proud.  I want to hold on to now because it’s so amazing, but I can’t wait to see her future.  I feel like she has been with me my whole life, and yet, I don’t know where the time has gone!  Everyone tells you, enjoy them while they are small because they grow so fast.  And how true it is.  I’m in love with the everyday things we do – the drive to preschool with her crazy non-stop chatter, the pick-up to see her run to me with arms out, the supermarket where she tells me all that she wants to buy (usually chocolate, pink milk, and soup), watching her play, and dance, and sing.  I took this shot during bath time tonight.  She loves her bath (although not a fan of shampooing!) and it’s a lovely quiet time.  Happiness is the simple things.  And I count down the days till 2 is 3.  M x
