Autumn leaves and laughter
An Autumn afternoon. at the park. explore. crunchy leaves. gold and brown. throw them up high! watch them fall and do it again. laugh and laugh. almost cold but not quite. playmates and friends all around. run and swing and climb and jump. feel the rain. in the pram with the cover. peek-a-boo with Mummy. giggles that won’t stop. cuddles and love. the change of season. the sun peeking out from behind the clouds. happiness. Some things remain
I raced outside to take a quick photo this afternoon, as Sophia and her Daddy were leaving the house. Sophia was on Andrew’s back in the sling, and it hit me - that it has been two whole years since we started using that very same sling! We had trouble with Sophia’s sleep from early on and she always settled better when we held her. Buying a sling was a great investment and Sophia went everywhere in it, so small at first that she fit entirely inside… It feels like yesterday that she was our new baby (oh, for that baby smell!) and I still have to pinch myself when I think of her as being 2. She has grown into an amazing, radiant little girl who is fiercely independent, and when it feels like it’s all happening in the blink of an eye, it’s comforting to see that some things still remain. Water water everywhere
That’s what happens when Sophia decides to water the plants! We bought her a little metal watering can and she adores it. Almost every time she sees it, she asks us to fill it up so she can give the garden some water, share a little with the pavement, and the rest for herself. Thankfully today was gorgeous and sunny, so her being mostly saturated wasn’t so bad. I love that she is interested in doing everything we do… and water play is one of her favourite things! Just add water and there’s instant fun to be had. M x

Can you hear it?
The sound filling the air around the city… every March at Albert Park, Formula One engines race around the track and the world watches. I love living close enough to hear that familiar roar, and it reminds me why I love living in Melbourne so much – there’s always something happening and it makes the city feel alive! Start your engines… M x

Big eyes and Barbie
Following on from my last post, Sophia decided to go outside to the balcony again… this time, with Barbie in hand. I can’t say I wasn’t worried for Barbie, and so I followed behind with my camera. Sophia seemed ready for another experiment in gravity as she teasingly dangled Barbie over the edge! I watched and waited… and fortunately, Sophia decided to spare poor Barbie and took her back inside. So I’m very happy to report that Barbie was not harmed during the taking of these photos. Who knows what will happen next time! M x

A better view
Sophia and I were out on the balcony today, looking down the street to the city, watching people and cars go by… it must be very fascinating for a two year old to watch the world from up above, like a bird. She had to test the distance from herself to the ground by dropping toys for me to run and fetch back for her, so excited when they returned, only to race outside and throw them off once more with an “Uh Oh!” for effect. Too cute not to love, just the same. I can understand her pleasure in it all, as there’s nothing like feeling you are on top of the world, even your own little one! M x

Dreaming in pictures
Welcome to Pieces of Dreaming… my first blog. Ever-inspired by beautiful photos and talented photographers, I hope this blog will inspire me to be better, work harder, and with determination and my dreams, someday become someone admired too. I hope you’ll come here and find a little piece of me in each post, as I constantly walk around taking photos in my head and as much as possible, translate these into actual images I can share. I am very new to the world of photography and take photos for the love and satisfaction of the art while taking care of my two year old daughter, Sophia (~ preventing spills, damage, tantrums, and in between, trying to laugh, play and wonder). I live in the city and as a true city girl at heart, there’s no place I’d rather be. When I’m not holding a camera I love to hold a pencil and draw – a lifelong passion.
Please enjoy and visit often! Love M x
